Qualification for Admission
Qualification for admission as a Liechtenstein lawyer
Law can be practised in Liechtenstein by anyone who is capable to act and trustworthy; holds the citizenship of Liechtenstein or of a party to the Treaty on the European Economic Area; has a place of residence in the Principality of Liechtenstein or in a party to the Treaty on the European Economic Area; has successfully completed the studies of law at a university or college recognised by the Liechtenstein government; can prove at least two years of practical work with Liechtenstein courts and a lawyer; has passed the lawyer examination; and finally, has been entered into the List of Lawyers.
The government recognises universities or colleges providing studies of law lasting at least four years and corresponding in its basics to the general principles of the Liechtenstein legal system.
The practical work necessary for practising law consists of work in the legal field with the courts and with a Liechtenstein lawyer. In addition, it may consist in work in the legal field with a notary public or, if the work is expedient for practicing law, with a national administrative authority or with a university or college. There must be at least two years of practical work. Of these, at least one year must be with a lawyer and six months with Liechtenstein courts. Practical work that need not necessarily be with Liechtenstein courts may also consist of equivalent practical work abroad. The earliest date from which practical work will be recognised is the completion of the studies of law.
